2 April, 2017

The Sri Lanka Military Academy has once again made a magnificent effort to organize the most popular automobile racing event in Sri Lanka the Fox Hill Super Cross. This year the race marks a significant milestone celebrating 25 years of pulsating racing in the salubrious hills of Diyatalawa.

The SLMA along with other affiliated automobile sporting bodies conducts the Fox Hill races to raise funds to enhance the infrastructure of the academy and training facilities .

Over the decades the SLMA has turned out many fine cadets into future military officers who continue to serve our motherland with dignity and altruism.

The Commandant of the SLMA BrigadierPriyantha Seneratne, who is the Chairman Organizing Committee , expressed his gratitude to all the sponsors who have supported the race this year.

He also remembered the “godfather” of the Fox Hill Super Cross the late Maj. General Gamini Gunasekera, who held the first race on 3 October 1993.

Since then hundreds of racing drivers and riders have shown their talent and thrilled the crowds who enjoy this scintillating event. This year there are 256 registered participants. This year a few foreign participants are also set to enrich the races.

This year there are 12 motor car and 12 motorcycle events. The races are grouped into group SL-GT up to 3500cc and Group SL-H up to 1600cc in the motor car category. Motorbikes are grouped into 125 cc up to 250cc and group MX Racing upto 85 cc.

Truck and Jeep up to 5500cc and super motored open 250cc upto 1100cc. The highest safety standards have been put into place, this year.

The name Fox Hill originates back to 1913 when a British naval ship HMS Fox docked at Trincomalee Harbor.

The crew was sent to Diyatalawa for some recreation. They wanted to leave an imprint of their visit in sunny Ceylon and thus proceeded to carve the ships insignia, an image of a running fox on the hillock.
