SLC Super Provincial 50 overs commences today : 60 players to showcase talent from four provinces

Sri Lanka Cricket’s Super Provincial 50-over tournament will commence today with 60 top players from four provinces showcasing their talent.

With teams from Galle, Dambulla Colombo and Kandy captained by Upul Tharanga, Kusal Perera, Dinesh Chandimal and Chamara Kapugedera respectively, upcoming young players will face the ultimate performance test as they play to grab a spot in the 15-member Sri Lanka squad for the ICC Champions trophy to be held in England in June. The deadline for submitting the final 15 names is April 25.

The tournament commences today with two day games - Colombo v Dambulla at the CCC and Galle v Kandy at the NCC. The tournament takes a break from April 12-19 for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year and resumes again on April 20.

The final will be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium under lights.

Sadeera Samarawickrema, who showed immense talent with a half century against Bangladesh, and a match winning top score of 45 against Pakistan, and was instrumental in guiding the Sri Lanka Emerging XI to the Asian Cricket Council Emerging Team Cup 2017 Championship title and Man of the Series Charith Asalanka, are prospective high potential performers.

Former Sri Lanka vice-captain Lahiru Thirimanne, who lost his way from the 2016 Australian home tour due to poor form, and Akila Dananjaya, the off spinner representing Galle, who made an impressive wicket taking international debut a few years ago, but faded away since will also be taking part.
