Garbage : None of your business – CMC Commissioner

30 April, 2017

Following the order by the Kesbewa Chief Magistrate Gihan Ranawaka on Friday to stop dumping garbage at the Karadiyana site, residents of Colombo are perturbed over what plans the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) may have to dispose of their garbage.

With access to Meethotamulla completely cut-off, Ja-Ela out of bounds and other possible sites in Muthurajawela and Dompe blocked by residents of those areas, Colombo denizens are wondering what will happen to their garbage in the coming days.

Social media was a buzz over reports that the CMC is asking residents to only throw out bio-degradable material and to burn the rest. When the Sunday Observer called Colombo Municipal Council Commissioner, V. K. A. Anura, he had only a short comment before abruptly cutting the line.

“We are collecting and disposing of garbage without any issue.”

When asked where the garbage is being dumped, he said, “That is none of your business.”
