Treasure hunters nabbed

Police officers of the Bibila Police station nabbed four treasure hunters on Friday. The Police, acting on information received, arrested the suspects in the Namiriththaketiya area along with equipment used to dig for treasure. According to the police, the suspects aged 44, 80, 18 and 32 are said to be residents of Bibila.

Heroin peddlers arrested

The Colombo Crimes Division of the Police arrested two heroin peddlers from the Mattakkuliya area on Friday. One was nabbed while having 7.9 grams of heroin in his possession while the other was found with 10.5 grams, the Police said.

According to the Police, the suspects aged 56 and 37 are said to be residents of the area. The Colombo Crimes Division is carrying out further investigations into the incident.

Woman drowns in Kekirawa

A woman who was bathing in Dambulu Oya, in Kumbukgahamankada, Sooriyagama area in the Kekirawa Police division had gone missing on Friday. Police along with residents in the area recovered the body of the missing woman after an extensive,18-hour search operation yesterday morning.

The victim has been identified as Liyanaarachchige Siriyalapa, a 53-year-old resident of Bulathsinhala.

Child killed in accident

A three-year-old girl was killed when the trishaw she was travelling in collided with a stationary truck in Horowpothana on Friday. According to the Police, the driver of the trishaw had lost control of the vehicle which had resulted in the fatal crash.

The trishaw was travelling from Horowpothana to Medawachchiya at the time of the accident. The child succumbed to her injuries following admission to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.
