The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution piloted by India, on December 11, 2014, declaring June 21 each year as the “International Day of Yoga”. The resolution was supported by more than 170 countries, with Sri Lanka being one of the first co-sponsors.

Yoga is an invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition that embodies the unity of mind and body. Yoga, like Ayurveda is part of the shared cultural heritage of India and Sri Lanka.

Indian Cultural Centre, High Commission of India, Colombo, will organize The Yoga Road Show as a curtain raiser to the 3rd International Day of Yoga from 20 to 25 May, island wide in Sri Lanka, in association with the Astanga Yoga Mandir and the Institute of Human Excellence.

Event 1- May 20 in Sigiriya, at the Sigiriya Park from 9 am to 10 am

Event 2 - May 20 in Polonnaruwa at Polonnaruwa Vatadage from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm.

Event 3- May 21 in Trincomalee at Inner Beach Dockyard Road from 7 am to 8 am

Event 4 - May 21 in Batticaloa at the Rajadurai Auditorium, Swami Vipulanda Institute of Aesthetic Studies from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm

Event 5 - May 22 in Kataragama at the Kiri Vehera Raja Maha Viharaya from 7.30 am to 8.30 am

Event 6- May 22 in Galle at the Samanala Grounds from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm

Event 7- May 24 in Jaffna at the Siddha Medicine Unit, University of Jaffna, from 9 am to 4 pm

Event 8- May 25 in Colombo at the Bank of Ceylon Auditorium from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm

The Yoga Road Show is supported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Wayamba Development and Cultural Affairs, United Students Front, National Youth Services Council Sri Lanka, Ayum Kriya Babaji Yoga Aranyam, Provincial Department of Indigenous Medicine, Eastern Province, Lanka IOC, Art of Living, Bramma Kumaris Raja Yoga Center, Eastern University Sri Lanka, Shakthi Ananda Yoga School, Kiri Vehera Raja Maha Viharaya, Dhammya Yoga Academy, Sethsada Institute, Siddha Medicine Unit, University of Jaffna, SKY Trust, and Sri Teivayanai Amman Thevasathnam, Kataragamam.

The third International Day of Yoga will be held on Saturday 17 June at 6.30 am at Independence Square. All are invited.
