Isipathana concluded their Singer Inter-Schools Under-20 League Rugby Tournament with a convincing 28 points to nil win over Wesley in their final second-round match worked off at Havelock Park yesterday.
Isipathana took some time to settle down early in the first half. But once they found their rhythm, Wesley found it tough. The green shirts completely outplayed their opponents in the second half. The winners scored five tries and one penalty.
Nevertheless, Isipathana were restricted to a solitary try in the first half during which Wesley defence stood firm. Isipatana scored only a try and a penalty to take an eight-nil lead at the breather. But it was a different story in the second half as Isipathana came back strongly to score four tries in the second half to win in style.
Sumudu Rankothge who showed no mercy to Wesley defence was in stunning form with three spectacular tries. Chamodh Fernando also joined Isipathana’s try feast by crossing over Wesley line twice. He also put over a penalty in the first half.
