Former Governor of the Eastern Province Kalupage Austin Fernando was appointed as the Secretary to the President yesterday. This appointment came with the former Secretary, P.B Abeykoon, who served as the Secretary since 2015, tendering his resignation citing personal reasons.
A student of Richmond College, Galle and a graduate of the Peradeniya University, Austin Fernando was appointed as an advisor to the President and subsequently as the Governor of the Eastern Province under the present administration. Fernando retired as a senior official of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS) during which time he also held office as the Defence Secretary.
