Police seize currency-sized blank paper : Three arrested

Three people possessing 5,510 currency-sized paper used to forge money, have been arrested, the Police said.

The trio were arrested based on information received from the Superintendent of Police in charge of the Anuradhapura division to the Diyathalawa Police, the media unit said.

The Police on investigation recovered paper used in the racket from the residences of the suspects in Haputale and Nuwara Eliya. The arrested individuals aged 63, 41 and 30 were produced before the Bandarawela Magistrates Courts yesterday.

According to police media spokesman, SP Ruwan Gunasekara, the Police have nabbed 174 notes of Rs. 5000 denomination, 46 of Rs. 1,000 denomination and 2,272 of Rs. 2000 denomination and 1,326 of Rs. 500 and 100 notes were also recovered by them. The Police have also requested the public to provide any information regarding counterfeit currency to the Counterfeit Currency Division of the CID through 0112326670.
