Rasangi de Mel
Rasangi de Mel

Music once admitted to the soul, becomes a sort of spirit and never dies. It wanders freely through the halls and galleries of our memory, says Rasangi de Mel who will present her solo concert on July 14, 5 p.m. at the Piyasena Kodithuwakku Theatre, C.W.W. Kannangara Maha Vidyalaya, Matugama. She will be singing along with her brother Geeth de Mel and several other singers. A compact disc containing 14 of her songs will be launched on this day.

With 38 years of singing and music teaching behind her, Rasangi will sing duets with her brother Geeth who is a journalist and singer, and the concert will be backed by Piyal Fernando and his musicians. The show will be compered by Indrasiri Sureweera.

Rasangi, an A Grade singer at the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation will sing her own compositions as well as popular songs by veteran lyricists.

During her days at the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation she was a member of the SLBC Lama Mandapaya and held her first solo concert, Svara Dehena at the C.W.W. Kannangara Maha Vidyalaya, Auditorium. She widened her horizon under the guiding eyes of leading musicians such as, Premadasa Mudunkotuwa, Rohana Beddage, Sanath Nandasiri, to name a few. Her performance on July 14 is one that should not be missed and they say that when you listen to a singer of Rasangi’s calibre you feel elated. How it happens we do not know – but it certainly gives you “a kind of pleasure which cannot be explained!”
