Esala Perahera

9 July, 2017

This is one of the most significant religious festivals in our country. This procession is held in the month of August every year. The perahera is very important than any other religious pageants because the Sacred Tooth Relic is taken out for the occasion. This procession is not limited to a day but it is held for several days. The Sacred Tooth Relic is carried by the Maligawa Tusker. She is beautifully decorated for the occasion, with a magisterial look when she carries the Relic.

There is a great demand for buildings and other compounds on either side of the road where the procession proceeds along. It gives the people to excel in various cultural events such as dancing and singing. It is a very significant and characteristic pageant.
