A husband who flew into a sudden rage, attacked his wife with an axe causing fatal injuries. The suspect was arrested by the Polpithigama Police in Kurunegala.
The injured woman who was admitted to the Kurunegala General Hospital, passed away after nine days.
The victim has been identified as W.M. Rupa Dissanayake, 38, a mother of three children, and a resident of Moragollagama. A Kurunegala police official told the Sunday Observer that disputes among spouses have led to about 18 deaths during the past three months in the Kurunegala district.
