Five well-to-do businessmen of Nikaweratiya town in Kurunegala were found guilty of having mosquito-breeding grounds within their business premises.
A team of PHI s directed by MOH, Nikaweratiya, Dr. Gamini Edirisinghe conducted the raid, nabbed the errant businessmen and later prosecuted them.
They were fined Rs. 40,000 by Nikaweratiya Magistrate, Mrs. Kanchana de Silva.
A Kurunegala police spokesman told the Sunday Observer that 114 householders and 76 government officials in the Kurunegala and Puttalam districts of the NWP have been fined by Courts during the past six months for having mosquito breeding grounds within their surroundings.
