The Sri Lanka High Commission in Abuja, Nigeria hosted the Global Tea Party on Thursday, July 6 at the official residence of the High Commissioner to celebrate 150 years of Ceylon Tea.

The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Nigeria, Thambirajah Raveenthiran delivered a brief welcoming speech where he highlighted the significance of the Global Tea Party.

The Sri Lankan envoy stated that the ISO has certified Ceylon Tea one of the cleanest and only Ozone-friendly certified tea in the world.

He said child labour is completely banned in the island nation and invited the beverage industry in Nigeria to partner with Sri Lanka to take the tea sector to a greater heights. About 50 people participated in the Global Tea Party.

This number included Nigerian tea importers, officials from Foreign Office, Immigration, Customs, Journalists, Travel Agencies, and also other Nigerian and Sri Lankan friends. Some of the participants such as tea importers had travelled faraway places like Lagos.

Timi Frank, National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress the ruling party of the President Buhari was the guest of honour in the Global Tea Party. This event was covered by the National Media.

At the end of the function the guests were invited to enjoy a cup of pure Ceylon brew with delicious traditional Sri Lanka exquisite culinary delights prepared with best products by a well-known Sri Lanka chef.
