Raising funds for Welisara Chest Hospital

23 July, 2017

The staff of the Bank of Ceylon, Western Province North (WPN) volunteered to conduct a Corporate Social Responsible project at the Welisara Chest Hospital to refurbish Ward 13 through donations collected from the Bank employees.

In addition, a fund raising campaign was conducted to renovate and brighten up the ward.

The in-house patients of the Ward can now enjoy a clean and refreshed environment, which will provide them psychological comfort for a fast recovery.

The BOC staff also voluntarily donated a TB detecting Microscope scan that will expedite health/ potential TB checking of incoming patients, thus avoiding long queues and waiting lists for the patients.

The Welisara Hospital treats many patients, mainly from nearby villages who find it difficult to reach expensive medical treatment and travel long distances from their hometowns. The BOC staff painted Ward no.13 and its beds, repaired the roof that had been an urgent need for many years, installed ceiling fans and tube lights, and equipped the ward with a dozen new steel cupboards and mosquito nets. They took time off their regular schedule to participate in this noble task to facilitate the hospital ward that provides immense benefits to patients.

The Bank of Ceylon encourages CSR activities taken up by the staff voluntarily. It’s embedded in the Bank’s CSR policy to pay high regard to employee voluntarism as an integral part in contributing to the community in which the branch operates.
