Brawl lands 17 in hospital

A fight between two groups in Angunakolapelessa has resulted in the hospitalisation of 17 people. According to the police, the incident had taken place at the Wetiya Junction along the Embilipitiya-Nonagama road. Police said a hand grenade had detonated during the fight, injuring those in the vicinity. Fourteen of the injured are being treated at the Embilipitiya Hospital while three others are receiving treatment at the Tangalle hospital. Angunakolapelessa Police are carrying out further investigations.

Deer poachers caught

Three men have been arrested for deer poaching by the Mahaoya Police. They were nabbed in the Omunugala areas of the Maduru Oya National Park along with 16 kilograms of venison.

The police also took into custody two motorcycles. The suspects aged 31 and 41 are said to be residents of Vavunathivu. Police are on the look out for several other suspects who fled the scene.

Religious idol thief arrested

A man suspected to have stolen a religious idol from a house in Pangiriwatta, Gangodawila has been arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division. According to the Police, the 1.7-foot granite idol of God Ganesha was found in the possession of the suspect. The 41-year-old suspect is said to be a resident of Vivekarama Road, Mirihana, Nugegoda.
