Husband beats wife to death
A man beat his wife to death in Goldfield Watta, Kandapola, Ragala, during a marital dispute the Police said.
According to the Police, the wife had succumbed to her injuries after being admitted to the Nuwara Eliya hospital on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as 44-year-old Mahalingam Maheshwari. Police have arrested the husband.
Illegal gem miners nabbed
The Police have arrested four people in Keselgamuwa, Bogawantalawa for carrying out gem mining activities without a valid permit.
Acting on a tip off, officers from the Bogawantalawa Police confiscated a number of items used in the racket, the Police said. The arrested suspects, aged between 35 and 49, are said to be residents of Balangoda.
Bogawantalawa Police are investigating.
Motorcyclist killed in Galewela
A 38-year-old man was killed when he lost control of the motorcycle he was riding which resulted in a crash on Friday in the Dambagahamulla area.
The man along with his pillion rider was admitted to the Galewela Hospital.
The motorcyclist was declared dead on being brought to the hospital, the Police said.
Police have identified the victim as Ratnayake Mudiyanselage Ashoka Bandara of Moragolla, Bambaragaswewa.
