Special commemorative cover with stamp for Harold Herat

The Department of Postal will issue a special commemorative cover with stamp of the senior politician late Harold Herat to mark his 10th Death Anniversary on 31st August at 3 p.m. at the Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7.

Deshabandu James Edward Harold Herat was a senior politician and Cabinet Minister. Herat was a Minister of Foreign Affairs under President Ranasinghe Premadasa from 1991 to 1993. He was born on 10th November 1930, the youngest son of Dr. Albert Herat and Dagmar Herat. He was educated at St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennapuwa, St. Joseph’s College Colombo and Maris Stella College Negombo where he excelled in tennis and was awarded School Colours.

He entered Parliament in 1977 representing the Nattandiya electorate in the Puttalam district and was the first Minister of Coconut Industries.

He held several portfolios under successive governments of the United National Party Minister of Foreign Affairs, whilst also as the State Minister for Finance to President R. Premadasa. He was also a Minister of Justice.
