Fourth phase to be launched

A new priority bus lane, dedicated to public transport buses will be introduced between Technical Junction and Slave Island on Tuesday, September 5. The new bus lane will be the fourth phase of the recently implemented Priority Bus Lanes project by the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development to improve public transport in the Western Province. The new addition will join six other priority bus lanes that were introduced last month. Meanwhile, two more priority lanes are to be introduced by the Ministry. A lane dedicated for buses will be implemented between Slave Island and Pettah on September 12 while another lane will be enforced between Borella and Maradana commencing on October 31, Ministry officials said.

The project is a joint effort of the Traffic Division of the Police, Sri Lanka Transport Board, Road Development Authority, National Transport Commission, Colombo Municipal Council and the Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority.
