Colombo Masters Cricket Association (CMCA) beat the Old Thomians’(OT’s) by 7 wickets in the inaugural veterans cricket encounter played at STC, Mount Lavinia.
CMCA won the toss and put the OT’s into bat. The Thomianopeners Vajira Wijegoonewardena (40) and Ramesh Wannakuwatte (16) put on a 50 run partnership. However thereafter wickets fell at regular intervals and they were 95 for 6.At which stage Janesh Rathnadasa (30) and Amitha Abeynaike(32) got together & put on a 60 run partnership. Ajith Ekanayakefor CMCA came in with superb bowling performance of 5 wickets for 20 runs. The OT’s ended there innings at 169 for 9 wickets in 30 overs.
CMCA openers Damian Tissarachchi (21) and NalliahDeverajan (16) put on 49 run partnership. After both openers were back in the pavilion, CMCA skipper DharshaAbeywardena(59) and Lasantha Perera(52) put on 111 run partnership and took the game away from the Old Thomians’. The only successful bowler for the Thomians’ was AnuraBulankulame who captured 2 for 42 runs.
