The 'All–Ceylon Schools' Sitar Competition 2017 was held recently at Maharagama. It was organised by the Education Ministry. Purnima Maduwanthee of Nalanda College, Minuwangoda was adjudged winner of the competition. She had also won first place in the Junior Championships in 2015. Maduwanthee has inherited much of her skills from her parents who are a dancing teacher and a well-known sitar player.
