DIGs fight for office space

17 September, 2017

The new DIG Traffic Chula de Silva found himself working from home last week due to a tussle over office space.

This was due to former DIG of Traffic and Crime, Kamal Silva failing to vacate the DIG Traffic Office at Olcott Mawatha before the arrival of the newly appointed DIG Traffic.

According to sources, DIG Kamal Silva had refused to vacate the office stating that there was no other suitable office space for him, forcing DIG Chula de Silva to return home on the first day of work and carry out his duties from his residence for several days.

This is despite the fact that the office space had been functioning as the designated DIG Traffic office for several years.

The issue was only resolved later in the week with IGP Pujith Jayasundara stepping in and calling for a meeting to seek a solution to the problem. At the meeting attended by several senior officers including DIG Kamal Silva and DIG Chula de Silva, sources say, the IGP decided to hand over the DIG Traffic Office to the incoming DIG and ordered those in attendance to seek a suitable office space to relocate DIG Kamal Silva´s office.

A group of several senior officers had thereafter spent much time visiting several locations in the search of an office space while finally settling on relocating DIG Silva´s office to the Organized Crimes Division Building in Colombo 10.
