 Kerala cannabis detected

On a tip off by the Navy, a team of police officers of the Kalpitiya police detected 80 kilograms and 868 grams of Kerala cannabis in three gunny bags at Bottuwadiya, Uchchimuniya in the Kalpitiya police division last Friday. Police are conducting investigations to apprehend the suspects.

Jewellery theft

Kattankudi police are investigating the theft of jewellery worth over Rs. 6 million, Rs. 100,000 in cash and one lakh in foreign currency from a house at Kallady last Thursday.

Four suspects have been taken into custody with jewellery worth Rs. 5,773,200.

Motorcyclist killed

A motorcyclist was critically injured when he crashed head-on against a Colombo bound private coach at Golahela junction, close to Kegalle town on Friday.

The victim, aged 47, has been identified as R.P. Gamini of Nelumdeniya, Dedigama, a Sub Inspector of the Kegalle Police. He succumbed to his injuries on admission to the Kegalle Hospital. The driver of the coach has been taken into custody. Kegalle Police is conducting investigations.

Police impersonators nabbed

The Cinnamon Gardens Police have taken into custody a trishaw and five suspects including three men and two women who had posed off as officers of the Walana anti-vice squad an abducted a doctor in Cinnamon Gardens and attempted to rob a gold ring and cash Rs.100,000 from his possession.

The suspects, identified as residents of Panadura, were to be produced before the Hulftsdorf Magistrate.
