Heroin suspect nabbed
The Modera Police took into custody a suspect with 4 grams and 200 milligrams of heroin in his possession at Kadiranawatte following a tip-off last Friday. The suspect aged 40 years, a resident of Mattakkuliya was to be produced before Maligawatte Magistrate. Modera police are conducting further investigations.
Woman drowns in Kavantissa Canal
A woman drowned at the Kavantissa Canal, in the Serunuwara Police division died on admission to Serunuwara hospital last Friday. The victim has been identified as M. Piyanka Jayanthi, age 45 residing at New Town, Serunuwara. The body is kept at the Serunuwara hospital mortuary. Serunuwara police are conducting investigations.
Man dies in brawl
Ransakari Kanagarasa, age 56 Yangaravur, Vavuniya with serious stab injuries died after admission to Vavuniya hospital on Friday. The death is reported to be a result of a brawl between two parties which took place near Pullair Kovil, Kudiirippu.
The body is kept at the Vavuniya hospital mortuary. A suspect with the alleged sharp object used in the crime has been taken into custody. Vavuniya police are conducting further investigations.
15 injured in bus tragedy
Twelve schoolchildren and two men and the driver with injuries were admitted to Central Camp hospital, Ampara last Friday when an Ampara bound private bus veered off from the road and fell into a canal at Weeragodapala junction along the Uhana-Ampara road. Later the casualties were transferred to Ampara hospital. Central Camp police are conducting investigations.
