12 November, 2017

My country is Sri Lanka. It is a beautiful island in the Indian Ocean. It is also called the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean”. Its nearest neighbour is India. Sri Lanka has a humid, wet climate. The average temperature is 29 C. The population is more than eighteen million. There are many rivers, mountains and waterfalls in Sri Lanka. Farming and fishing are the main occupations. Tea, rubber, coconut and spices are exported to other countries. Tea earns the most foreign exchange, and Sri Lankan tea is famous all over the world. Sri Lanka’s Trincomalee harbour is one of the six natural harbours in the world. The Colombo harbour is of international fame. Sri Lanka is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country. There are Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and Burghers. The present capital is Sri Jayawardanepura, Kotte. Colombo is the commercial and administrative centre.
