The Shangri-La Hotel Colombo, allowed a sneak peek into the property, scheduled to open on November 16.

Speaking to the press Shangri-La Vice President and General Manager Timothy Wright said, we are not looking to take away business from the competition but rather to attract new ventures.

With the capability to host a 1,000 guest sit-down dinner in a ballroom, 1,520 sq. mts., already several large international conferences have placed bookings with us.

Being the 101st Shangri-La, we are keen to create a brand of hospitality that is uniquely Sri Lankan, rather than take the Shangri-La style around. Commenting on the recruitment, Wright said, we have selected people who we believe have the right attitude for the job.

They are from diverse backgrounds and what we looked for, above all, was their attitude and passion. We have been training our staff at the Shangri-La Hambantota and some have even been sent to the Philippines for training.

We have assembled a team, we are confident of. Speaking of the prices he said, we are certainly not the cheapest, but when the guests experience the level of service offered, they would know we provide value for money. Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo, will be built according to sustainability guidelines, with 500 rooms offering some of the largest accommodation in town at 45 square metres to 60 square metres (484 square feet to 646 square feet).

It also includes 30 suites ranging in size from 90 square metres to 225 square metres (968 square feet to 2,421 square feet).
