Extraordinary Gazette 2043/56 dated 2017/11/02, stating the number of members of Local Government bodies has been issued, the Government Printer, Gangani Liyanage, told the Sunday Observer yesterday.
“The Sinhala version was issued in the morning, while the Tamil version was issued in the evening. The English version will be issued on Monday and Tuesday,” Liyanage said, adding that each version was approximately 220 pages.
“Information was received by the Department of Government Printing, from the Ministry of Provincial Council and Local Governments on November 2. However, the document had to be sent back to the Ministry for proofreading,” she said.
The issue of Extraordinary Gazette 2043/56 is required to announce the dates of the Local Government polls.
Gazette Extraordinary 2043/57 dated 2017/11/02, stating the number of members for provincial councils, was issued earlier in the week.
Additional Commissioner Elections, Legal and Investigation, M.M. Mohammed said that nominations for the local government elections will be called after November 27 as announced earlier. The dates for the election will be announced after nominations are closed.
