Dengue prevention project in Puttalam

Puttalam Grand Masjid administration has inaugurated a Dengue prevention project, in collaboration with the Puttalam Public Health Department and the officers of the Puttalam Divisional Secretariat, to safeguard the general public who live in the Puttalam town and nearby areas, from the dengue disease.

As an initial step, Puttalam Grand Masjid conducted a meeting to acquaint the high officials of Puttalam town, on the dengue menace. The Public Health Inspector was the facilitator of this, and many officials such as, Parliamentarian M.H.M.Navavi, Puttalam Assistant Police Officer, the Trustee Board and Chairmen of Masjids in the Puttalam town, Grama Niladharis, Samurdhi Officers, members of Social Service Organizations and social activists participated in the meeting.

The participants took three decisions. First, to immediately conduct Shramadhana in areas where people are severely affected by dengue. Second, to continue the Shramadhana activities in other areas, and third, to arrange awareness programs like community theatres, for the public in several areas in the Puttalam town about dengue mosquito breeding and its prevention.

As the second step of this effort, smoke spraying activity was carried out on Saturday (4) to control dengue mosquito breeding.

Meanwhile, smoke spraying is to be conducted in 4th, 5th 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th divisions of Puttalam town and in the Mullipuram Grama Niladhari area. Puttalam Grand Masjid administration would provide financial support to make this project a success.
