Army beat CR in the rain

A deligent forwards display by Army helped them to beat CR&FC by 24 points ( Two goals, two tries) to 10 ( Two tries) in a rain hit Dialog ‘A’ division league rugby match played at Longden Place yesterday.

The match was confined to a fierce forwards battle and the soldiers got the better out of their counterparts. The army played with better understanding while handling the wet ball, CR& FC dropped the ball at crucial moments and were unable to make much head way. Both teams started promisingly, but army drove into rucks and mauls efficiently for score four tries.

A good part of the first half produced a blank sheet, but in the 34 minute of the game the ‘red shirts’ opened scoring off a three quarter move where Shashan Mohammed gave the finishing touches . Army found the equaliser soon when Sujith Nanayakkara touched down to an unconverted try. Then at the stroke of the short whistle army won a line out and set the line in motion for Ashen Bandara to touch down which Gayan added the extra points

Army led 12-5 at the half time.

Ashen Bandara scored twice for the soldiers on resumption first when the ball was kicked towards in the CR territory a defender failed to collect and Bandara picked and crashed through to score. Bandara scored once again off a three quarter move. Prior to that CR&FC scored their second try through Reza refaideen which went unconverted.
