The ponds

The ponds are large bathing tanks which catered to the needs of monks and staff of Abhayagiriya and was built in the eighth century. Water was filtered several times before flowing into a pond through a dragon headed spout. Other noteworthy features are the beautiful carvings and guard stones around the ponds.
