P.M.N. Bandara received the Member of Logohu award from the Governor General of Papua New Guinea Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadaeat at the investiture ceremony held at Government House.

Papua New Guinea’s national honours and awards system, known as “The Order of Papua New Guinea”, was established in 2005 by the authority of The Queen and Head of State of the Independent State of Papua New Guinean, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Second. The meaning of the word Logohu is Bird of Paradise according to a regional language. Bird of Paradise is an iconic bird in PNG. This prestigious award is offered to recognize the performance of distinguished service to the nation, for a considerable period of time.

P.M.N. Bandara is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Head of the Accounting Division, University of Papua New Guinea. He has been awarded the Member of Logohu for his contribution to higher education, particularly, accounting profession and accounting education in PNG during the past 16 years. He was instrumental in introducing the subject of Accounting to secondary schools, restructuring the Bachelor of Accounting degree program and introducing new degree programs in Accounting. Further, he has initiated partnership programs with local and overseas professional and academic institutions.

He has been actively involved in distance education in Accounting, secondary school teacher training, development of accounting and business skills for those in the grassroots. He is also involved in teaching, course material development, and exam writing for Certified Practising Accountants of PNG. Recently, he was elected as a Council Member. He also serves as a member of governing bodies of several tertiary educational institutions, and is the Chief Examiner of Grade 12 (equivalent to GCE AL) Accounting.

Bandara has written 10 text books in business studies, accounting and economics for secondary schools, universities and other tertiary institutions in Papua New Guinea.

Prior to taking up the new job in PNG he has written nearly 30 books on these subjects, and served as founder and chief editor of “Arthika Vidya” a fortnightly journal.

He has contributed to newspapers, writing columns and leading articles in current business and economic affairs.

Bandara has been appointed as the Hon. Consul for Sri Lanka in Papua New Guinea by the Sri Lanka Government. He serves as President of the Sri Lanka- Papua New Guinea Friendship Foundation.
