Bus topples: Two killed

Two people were killed when a bus veered off the road and plunged into the Dodamgaha Ela yesterday on the Ratnapura Embilipitiya road. The incident occurred around 2.10 am. The bus had been plying from Urubokka to Colombo at the time.

Police say around 60 people had been on board the bus at the time. The injured were admitted to the Ratnapura and Kahawatta hospital. Identities of the deceased are unknown. Ratnapura Police are investigating. 

Heroin peddler nabbed

A man in possession of 13 grams of heroin was nabbed by the Colombo Anti-vice Unit on Friday. The arrest was made in the 25 watta area on the Baseline road on a tip-off received. The suspect is a 51-year-old individual from Baseline Road, Borella the Police said. 

Man arrested for possession of a firearm

A suspect was arrested with a locally manufactured firearm in Hipangahakanda of the Uragasmanhandiya Police Division. The arrest was made by the Kurundugahahetekma Special Task Force organized crime prevention unit. The 30-year-old suspect is a resident of Hipangahakanda. He has now been remanded till January 3 by the Elpitiya Magistrates Court. Uragasmanhandiya Police are investigating. ​
