Woman murdered in Ratnapura
An 83-year-old woman was found stabbed to death in Malwala, Meehitiya Ratnapura yesterday morning. The victim has been identified as Dassanayake Mudiyanselage Kamalawathi. No suspects have been identified as yet, the Police said. Further investigations are being carried out by the Ratnapura Police.
Relic hunters nabbed
Nine men were arrested while hunting for treasure in Kebithigollewa on Friday.
According to the police, the men were found in the Galapita Wewa reserve conducting excavations in a bid to discover historical relics.
The arrests were made by Special Task Force officers from the Vavuniya Madukanda Camp and handed over to the Kebithigollewa Police.
The men ranging from ages of 29 to 63 are said to be residents of Anuradhapura, Padaviya, Matale and Poonewa, Kebithigollewa.
Foreigner drowns in Habaraduwa
A 67-year-old tourist from the Netherlands drowned off the seas in Habaraduwa near the Long Beach Hotel on Friday.
According to the Police, the victim had died after being admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital. Habaraduwa Police are investigating.
