More drinking water for low income families in Matara

The provision of pure drinking water and sanitation facilities for the low income families in the Matara district are to be enhanced.

According to project director C. Ranawaka of the Institute for Community Strengths Matara proposed community welfare projects have already been commenced in Divisional Secretariat Divisions of Dickwelle, Devinuwara, Matara, Weligama, Mulatiyana, Pasgoda and Pitabeddara. Over 30 low income families deprived of pure drinking water facilities have been provided with fabricated water tanks and also selected 20 poor families without proper sanitations facilities have been granted financial assistance to construct water sealed lavatories through this project at the moment.

Accordingly another selected batch of 130 needy families are due to be provided with fabricated water tanks and financial aids for putting up water sealed latrines.German Association for International Development is the main resource person of all these community welfare projects program director C. Ranawaka added.
