Gallant CH go down 23/34 to Kandy

21 January, 2018

Defending Dialog ‘A’ division league champions Kandy Sports Club were given a tough time before winning their second round game against CH&FC by 34 points (5 tries, 3 conversions, 1 penalty) to 23 (3 tries, 1 conversion, 2 penalties) at Nittawela yesterday.

Kandy SC led 19-10 at the break.

It was a proud moment for Kandy to come through and show the supportive home crowd that they are capable of winning matches with good quality rugby. It was a combination of their sheer hard work, grit and determination that they were able to overcome a gallant CH team.

The CH lads gave their best, but Kandy knew how to turn on the heat at the right moment. There were some good individual play, but CH failed to use them and paid for it dearly. The good work of their back-row forwards was fine, but their backs struggled with handling errors. CH packed with some good players, should have done much better in this game but failed to drive home the advantage, due to poor co-ordination.

Kandy came out firing and held up the challenge posed by CH and stuck to their game plan.
