Traffic plans in place

A special traffic plan will be in place within Colombo city today owing to the 70th Independence Day celebrations. The plan will also see several road closures during the day. Continued on page 12

According to Police spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara, the road section from Galle Face Roundabout to Old Parliament Roundabout and the Ceramic junction on Lotus road will be closed from 6 a.m. - 12 noon today, while the road from the Slave Island Railway Station to the Galle Face roundabout through Macan Markar Road, will also remain closed during the aforementioned times.

The Police have directed all heavy vehicles entering Colombo today to use alternative roads from W.A. Silva Mawatha in Wellawatte through Havelock Road, Thimbirigasyaya, Thunmulla towards Town hall and then proceed towards Colombo.

Heavy vehicle users leaving Colombo are advised to use the route to Thunmulla junction, Duplication road to exit from Colombo, while other vehicles are also advised to use the same alternative routes during the Independence Day parade proceedings.

Light vehicles entering Colombo can use any permitted by-lane from Wellawatte to Bambalapitiya and through Duplication road, proceed towards Thunmulla, Town Hall and then go towards Pettah, the Police said.
