Canadian companies invest in Eastern Province tourism sector

Ideal Developments Canada and Pura Resorts Canada announced one of the first international FDIs into Sri Lanka’s east coast, to build 50 luxury resort chalets and 62 luxury island homes on the beaches of Nilaveli, Trincomalee.

Construction work is expected to be completed by April 2020.

Pura Luxury Resort Villas is the first project in Sri Lanka by this Canadian investor. Ideal Developments is a multi-faceted company that develops residential and commercial real estate throughout Greater Toronto as well as internationally, intending to maximize peace, luxury, tranquility and nature at this coastal retreat through conceptual luxury, unique in design and unparalleled in features.

Gaining its name through multiple meanings, Pura means pure in Spanish; temple in Malay and Indonesian; settlement or town in Sinhala and Sanskrit; and conjures authentic experiences in English, taking ‘pure’ as its nucleus. Pura Luxury Resort.

Villas denotes an untouched, unspoiled luxury, perfected by nature. Managing Director, Pura Resorts Inc and Director of Corporate Affairs Ideal Group, Sri Nithya Omkarananda said, “Our entire concept is built around having five star resorts and vacation resorts in destinations that have untouched beauty - raw, virgin, surrounds lush greenery and large trees that form the backdrop to oceans, waterfalls and rivers, basically, offering nature, paradise, luxury, joy and inspiration.”

Ideal Developments, founded by Sri Lankan Shaji Nada, collates design-forward strategies to create exceptional projects that showcase leading-edge architecture and technology, with an impressive portfolio of upscale custom luxury homes, he said.

This maiden project for Ideal Developments and Pura Resorts, a subsidiary of the Ideal Group, embraces contemporary architecture as a striking counterpoint to this natural palette which thrives in a jungle milieu and coastal canvas.

“For us, it’s about creating sustainable mixed-use properties in the hospitality industry, both, in Canada and around the world, with each Pura site offering the experience of luxury and nature in its purest form,” Omkarananda said.

Architect, Philip Weeraratne, whose signature design fundamental is in seamlessly blending the outdoors with the interior, articulated that maintaining the central theme of nature is an integral facet, and utmost care is being taken to preserve the existing trees and landscape.

“The natural stream that runs through the site is incorporated into the design,’’ he said.
