HNB launches Gateway Student Savings Unit

HNB opened its 154th Student Savings Unit – a mini-bank unit operated by students – at Gateway College, Colombo.
HNB opened its 154th Student Savings Unit – a mini-bank unit operated by students – at Gateway College, Colombo.

Continuing in its pioneering efforts to inculcate the savings habit in children, Sri Lanka’s premiere private sector commercial bank, HNB PLC announced the opening of a new Student Savings Unit at Gateway College, Colombo.

The new unit was opened by Gateway Group Chairman, Dr. Harsha Alles and Managing Director, Rohini Alles. Senior officials from HNB including HNB Chief Operating Officer, Dilshan Rodrigo and Deputy General Manager – Retail Banking, Sanjay Wijemanne were also present.

Addressing the gathering, Rodrigo highlighted the importance and value of cultivating the savings habit from a young age.

“Our two institutions share a common passion for improving the lives of children and helping them to achieve their aspirations. We are driven to digitalize education in Sri Lanka and grateful to Dr Alles for his inputs and active involvement in this journey,” he said.

Gateway Group Chairman, Dr. Harsha Alles said, “When it comes to education, it is vital for all progressive institutions to keep an eye on the past in order to safeguard and enrich our values and culture, while also keeping an eye to the future in order to ensure that the direct and indirect lessons we teach can be learned and applied in the context of an increasingly complex world.
