Several roads in Colombo will be closed for traffic today due to the IronMan Colombo Triathlon which will be held in Colombo Fort, Kollupitiya, Bambalapitiya and Wellawatte.
Both sides of Galle Road from Galle Face Hotel roundabout to the Kollupitiya junction Marine Drive will be closed from 3 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
From 3 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., three lanes on the seaside leading to the Galle Face Green (from old Parliament roundabout to Galle Face Hotel roundabout) will be closed while the landside lane will be made available to the public to access the hotels.
Galle Face roundabout will be fully cordoned off although Police will control limited vehicle movements to and from Galle Face Hotel. The Galle Face car park will be closed to the public while the bus halt in front of the Old Parliament will be out of bounds over the duration of the event which lasts until 4 p.m.
Police also said Chaitya Road will be closed from both directions from 3 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. while parking on the road will not be allowed until 4 p.m.
Meanwhile, both sides of the Marine Drive from Kollupitiya to Dehiwala bridge will be temporarily closed from 3 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. During this period, the bus halt at the Kollupitiya Railway Station will be shifted to the Kollupitiya market.
