15 April, 2018

The Department of Meteorology has announced thunder showers are likely to develop at several places across the island during the next few days up to April 16. According to the Department, heavy rainfall of about 100 mm is expected particularly in the Western, North Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central, Eastern and Uva Provinces.

While the Department said rains can be expected across the island in the afternoons, the Eastern, Southern and Uva Provinces may experience rain earlier in the day as well, they said. It has also asked the public to be alert to misty conditions which can be expected at some places in the Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces during the morning hours.

The Department also said showers or thundershowers may occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Trincomalee via Hambantota and Batticaloa. Meanwhile, the Met Department said the sun will be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka today. The nearest areas over which the sun will be overhead are Mannar, Periyamadu, Puliyankulam, Welioya and Kokilai. - MB
