Have you read the novel The Lilac Tree? Well, if you haven’t, I’ll tell you about it. The Lilac Tree is written by the award winning writer Helen Dunmore. It was first published by Scholastic in the year 2004. The story is about two friends named Katie and Zillah. Katie and her mother move to Cornwall from London after her father dies while cutting a lilac tree in the garden. Katie hates her new life at first. Having a bathroom outside the house is an annoying situation and the big spiders inside the bathroom scare her. Later, Katie meets a strange girl named Zillah. Zillah is silent and not a talkative girl. She spends her time reading books at school. However, she becomes unusually talkative with Katie. As Zillah has no friends at school, she makes friends with Katie. Zillah has no one to share her problems or secrets with. As the novel progresses, it takes a mysterious turn. Read the book to find out what happens in the end.
