Asanka Gurusinha has been appointed as the Chief Cricket Operations Officer at Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and will be responsible for steering the ‘High Performance Centre’, ‘Brain Centre’ and women’s cricket with effect from May 15. “Gurusinha is an Australian Level Three qualified coach with a good technical knowledge for high-performance and he was truly interested in the job”, said SLC president Thilanga Sumathipala.
Sumathipala further said that managing a team is not a big problem compared to rehabilitating a player from injury. “Gurusinha will have more responsibility than Simon Wills. With his experience of working with the national team as the team manager who knows exactly what the team’s requirements are, we believe that with the World Cup coming up in a year Gurusingha’s role will help us to draw up our plans”, said Sumathipala.
Gurusinghe was appointed as cricket manager last year and also worked as a coach until Chandika Hathurusinghe’s appointment.
