We wish to inform our readers that due to a revelation brought to our attention we have been compelled to declare the voting results of one of the schoolboy cricketers in the fray for the Mobitel-Sunday Observer Most Popular Cricketer of the Year contest null and void. Hence we regret to inform the reading public that the name of Gishan Edirisinghe has been taken out of the contest in keeping with the norms that employees of this newspaper group and their family members are considered ineligible to compete.
We regret that the ineligibility criteria was not clearly indicated in the Competition Rules and Regulations published by this newspaper and regret the inconvenience caused to Gishan Edirisinghe and his family. The voting will however proceed accordingly and the results published weekly until the final count. Sachin Silva has regained the lead in this week’s count and the Sunday Observer also regrets any inconvenience caused to the rest of the contestants in the running.
