St. Anthony’s Girls School, Katugastota produced a stunner performance to beat Nugawela National School by 42 runs in their annual Big Match played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Antonian girl Sanduni Weerasinghe top scored with 69 in her team’s total of 188 for 4 in 35 overs to be adjudged the player of the match as Nugawela were restricted to 146 for 9 in 35 overs with Lakmali Rajapakse of Nugawela chipping in with 53.

The Nugawala girls despite chasing a big target did everything possible but the Antonians girls were a smarter bunch to romp home winners in front of a large crowd that included the spearhead of women’s cricket in Sri Lanka Apsari Tillakaratne and the Central Province chief minister Sarath Ekanayake.
