Support budding entrepreneurs Mangala tells State bankers

10 June, 2018

The government aims at producing one hundred thousand entrepreneurs by 2020, Minister of Finance and Media Mangala Samaraweera said last week.

The Enterprise Sri Lanka program which comprises 16 loan schemes has been designed to achieve this objective, he said. Minister Samaraweera was speaking at an awareness program on Enterprise Sri Lanka for State bank representatives at Temple Trees last week.“The 2018 Budget was presented under the theme Enterprise Sri Lanka and Blue and Green Economy. Though we are an agricultural country, based on historical evidence, we had the ability for entrepreneurship.

We should provide an opportunity to all Sri Lankans to become stakeholders in the Enterprise Sri Lanka program. We need to create reasonable and equal opportunities and an enabling environment to produce entrepreneurs,” he said.

“As State bankers, the officials should support the emerging entrepreneurs and help them in expanding their ventures by assisting in their financial matters,” the Minister said.
