Mahamaya wins title for 20th year swimming

The swimming team of Mahamaya Girls College, Kandy won the schools swimming championship for a record 20the year in a row marking a rare achievement that has been put down to regular training, dedication and commitment as well as the coach U.H.Sugath and the teacher-in-charge Priyanga Herath.

The occasion was the 45th Annual Inter Schools Swimming Championship held at the Sugathadasa Stadium swimming pool from June 6 to 10. The swimmers of Mahamaya were felicitated at a special assembly of the school on the June 13 after the champions were brought to the school playground in a procession escorted by the school band. The acting principal of Mahamaya, Himali Senadheera, vice principal Vishaka Herath, coach U.H.Sugath and acting coach Ajith Roshan also accompanied the swimmers.
