Sustainable reading programme Kalana Mithuru Poth Sumithuru

The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said that the objective of his ministry is to make the children of the nation to be passionate with reading.

The Minister expressed these views while participating at the inauguration of the Sustainable reading promotional programme, Kalana Mithuru Poth Sumithuru 2018 – 2019 held recently at the ministry premises. The minister pointed out that cultivating the reading habit in a young society which is facing the risk of becoming addicted to various bad habits and unholy activities is really a revolutionary concept. It will create a future generation empowered with knowledge and intelligence for the country. Through this move it is easy to build a strong foundation for the development of the country. Is also a massive support for improving the human resources of the country, the Minister said.

Kalana Mithuru Poth Sumithuru is for students in Grades 6 to 13.

The programme consists of two sections, namely the medal program and the performing section. Students who obtain more than 50% marks for work sheets written on each book read by them and complete 50 work sheets (student who have read 50 books) will receive silver medals. The students who obtain more than 50% marks for the work sheets written on each book read by them and complete 75 work sheets (students who have read 75 books) will receive a gold medal.

The students who obtain more than 50% marks for the work sheets written on each book read by them and complete 100 work sheets (students who have read 100 books) will receive platinum medals.
