Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) launched European Emission Standard Euro 4 fuel to the local market in keeping with the government’s efforts to transform its core energy products to meet the European Emission Standards.
“The launch of Euro 4 fuel will propel the standard of the fuel in the local energy sector and this will also augur well for the environment. The product is environment friendly and it will help sustain cleaner air making the negative impact on the pollution less effective,” Minister of Petroleum Resource Development Arjuna Ranatunga said.
“As a government owned corporation it is imperative that CPC supports the government in transforming the energy sector by adopting to greener initiatives. By introducing carbon conscious products such as Euro 4, not only we are able to contribute towards global initiative of reducing CO emissions, but also enable local consumers and industrials sector to reap the benefit of greener products that would improve the overall quality of life,” he said. The highly efficient Euro 4 fuel will replace the existing 95 octane petrol and Super Diesel 4 star, thus offering consumers a better product that is of low emission and high in fuel efficiency.
“We as a nation need to move forward with the world trends and adapting to international standards to protect the environment is vital. As a government entity, we are pioneering ourselves in becoming the forerunners of transforming the country’s energy sector to greener initiatives. We are grateful to our stakeholders, who constantly keeps us updated on the requirements of the CPC to improve the energy supply of the country in an economical and efficient manner,” Chairman Ceylon Petroleum Corporation Dhammika Ranatunga said.
