The Sri Lanka Golf Union, the governing body for Golf in Sri Lanka together with HSBC will for the second successive year host the International Junior Golf Championship involving Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, Malaysia and Thailand at the Royal Colombo Golf Club on August 1 and 2.

This event was initiated by the Sri Lanka Golf Union (SLGU) - Junior Sub Committee to raise the bar for junior golf in the country by inviting international talent to compete locally thereby providing a much needed exposure to junior golfers.

Commenting on the event, newly elected president of the Sri Lana Golf Union Air Chief Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama stated: “We are delighted to be once again having with us junior internationals from Pakistan, India, Malaysia and Thailand for the HSBC International Junior Golf Championship. We equally hope that they will enjoy our country and gain as much from playing this tournament in Sri Lanka as our juniors undoubtedly will gain from this experience”.

HSBC will also partner the SLGU in promoting the ‘Future Lions’ programme which will be conducted in parallel with the main international event.

This is a novel initiative whereby golf will be introduced as a sport to school children in various locations countrywide. This grass root programme will be open to kids aged between 8-13 years and will be rolled out this year in Hambantota, Diyatalawa and Trincomalee.

Mark Prothero, Chief Executive Officer - HSBC Sri Lanka and Maldives said: “We were delighted to initiate Sri Lanka’s inaugural junior golf grass root program (HSBC Future Lions) in partnership with the Sri Lanka Golf Union which engaged over 300 children across five locations. We are excited with the young golf talent which was discovered from key cities and even from an unlikely place like Kilinochchi in the north which augurs well for the sport”.To register and receive more information, all schools and parents have been requested to call Duminda on 0714-327343 (SLGU hotline)

HSBC Premier clients can register by contacting their respective relationship managers.
