To support Sri Lanka’s efforts to strengthen its flood and drainage management infrastructure, Grundfos is continuously looking at projects under the Megapolis and the Colombo Flood Control projects, with discussions in this regard underway.
One of them is the St. Sebastian South project. Grundfos Asia Pacific Regional Director, Business and Product Portfolio - Water Utility, Tan Chee Meng said.Grundfos is the world’s largest pump manufacturer based in Denmark.
Through its regional headquarters in Singapore, Grundfos is currently in the process of expanding its business landscape in Asia. “We have seen growth prospects in Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Cambodia. These three countries will be our key markets over the next few years.” Chee Meng revealed during a recent interaction with a group of Asian journalists in Singapore.
Talking further on plans for Sri Lanka, he said the company plans to intensify its business in Sri Lanka, taking advantage of the island’s growing construction, tourism and apparel industries.
“Looking forward, we are optimistic about Sri Lanka’s ongoing mega mixed-development projects, including the Colombo Port City. In the meantime, we are in talks with customers for other upcoming projects,” he told the Business Observer.
“With Sri Lanka being an emerging market for Grundfos, we will continue to seek opportunities that allow us to provide world-leading pump solutions for building services, water utility and industries.”
Chee Meng said, “This is demonstrated by a few of the key projects we have recently concluded. In the area of commercial buildings, we have provided pumping solutions for the newly built Shangri-La hotel. For water utilities, we supplied to water treatment plants in the Mannar and Vavuniya districts” In Sri Lanka Grundfos has also worked with the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) and supported its capacity building projects.
Industry entry
From an industry perspective, a key sector the company is focused on in Sri Lanka is the beer industry, where Grundfos provides various water transfers and booster pumps required in the beer production process, as well as for the gloves production industry.“We do serve the whole value chain in terms of water utility, from end user, consultant to contractors. However, we are not able to share any further details at this moment.”
“We are an innovative manufacturer which is following manufacturing concepts in the line of ‘intelligence’ with the advent of new technologies such as artificial intelligence. We are concentrating on intelligent pumps and systems which are energy efficient.” These products can be controlled and monitored to optimize their use. Speaking to a group of Asian journalists visiting Grundfos assembly facility in Singapore, Meng said, some of the key development projects in Singapore including Sentosa Integrated Resort, Marina Integrated Resort, Wings of Time project, Marina Bay Financial Centre, Orchard Central, The ION Orchard and Changi Airport Terminal 3 were completed with Grundfos pump solutions.
