Our environment is the surroundings around us which includes water resources, air, land and trees. Today, environmental pollution has become a major problem in Sri Lanka. People put poisonous chemicals in water and pollute it. Air is polluted by smoke and gases emitted from factories. Land is polluted by dumping garbage. People cut down trees in a careless manner and they do not think of the negative effects of their actions on the environment as trees prevent soil erosion. The environment helps people and animals and birds build their nests on trees. We must grow more trees, keep our gardens clean and protect the environment.
